How to make life easier after an injury or illnessWe all like to make things just a little bit easier for ourselves during the day where we can - especially during an illness or recovering from an injury. A slipped disc can be incredibly painful, debilitating, and an awkward elephant in the room for even the simplest of tasks. 'Fancy taking the laundry basket upstairs for me, dear?' to the reply of 'I can't, I've got a bad back' can be embarrassing, but it's a reality that many of us have to face. A lower back injury caused from exercise is a common affliction that can reduce the strongest of us to whimpering wrecks at the sight of a set of stairs, a washing basket, or even the thought of getting up. This is not a medical step-by-step to fixing a back injury, I might add. In the same way, when we're relegated to our beds for a couple of days with an illness, even the simplest of household tasks becomes a personal Everest to conquer. The best way to sort a sore back or nurse a headache is rest - this is a given. But I for one am guilty of trying to bite off more than I can chew when recovering, such as lugging things up or down stairs when I should be catching up on the latest films. Life at home can be made easier by removing - or at least limiting - the physical strains such as carrying dirty laundry around the house like a hitch-hiker. Taking on too much too soon can plonk you right back on that sick bed. Instead of getting back on that horse, let the horse do it for you - or something slightly more practical - well why not?. Wouldn't it be pleasant then, to be able to nip across the hall and let the helping hand of good 'ol gravity do the hard work like they do in Friends, with a laundry chute? [Return] |
