Installing a Laundry Chute in a New 2022 Home
Installing a Laundry Chute in a New 2022 Home

2022... another year has flown by and here we are, making goals and plans for the year ahead.

If you are planning to renovate, build or buy this year, now is the perfect time to get your hands on a laundry chute!

But what are the regulations and guidelines for 2022?

Thankfully you don’t need to worry about fire safety and building regulations as our laundry chutes comply with these regulations, our parts are made from steel, not plastic or wood. The pipework will also be connected with a firm clamp to reduce and prevent smoke escaping from the joints. Another thing that is crucial to the process of installation is that a UK fire rated door or lid will be supplied (to meet or exceed BS 476:Part 22). As an option for added safety, a fire damper can be installed near the base of the chute. This is not required for the majority of installations but recommended for certain situations - we would always advise. Parts will be encased in at least half an hour fire rated compartment using plasterboard, brick or block.

Another question we get asked a lot is, “how do I make sure that the chute is safe with children in the house”? The laundry chute doors should be supplied with a lockable handle, and for our flush ‘disappearing’ doors, they have a two-stage opening process to prevent the door being opened easily. We also recommend that all laundry chute doors are installed at least 1m above finished floor level. There should be no sharp edges inside any of the pipe-work.

Do not fret, our chutes are not a hazard to children; in fact, they encourage them to pick up their laundry and send them to the utility room. It’s a one path road towards ‘doing laundry smarter’!

One of the best things about Laundry Chutes UK is that we offer a minimum of a 5 year guarantee and extend all the way up to lifetime guarantee with our Premium PYTHON laundry chute. This peace of mind represents the simplified nature of the laundry chore when you have invested and upgraded your home with us.

Did you know that our chutes can be SELF-installed? The process usually takes less than four hours and is a stress-free task (much like your laundry too). We provide you with a video tutorial and any other help you may require. You can find out more on self-installation here. However, if this option isn’t suitable for you, our team can also come out and fit it all for you. Our length adjustable pipework sections really help and save time so that you can begin using your chute even quicker.

Is your home suitable for a chute? Suitable residential homes in the UK range from 2-7 floors. New builds and renovation projects can accommodate a laundry chute too. Ideally, a straight vertical drop into the utility room is the perfect situation. However, slight offsets or even angles up to 45 degrees can be fitted without laundry getting stuck halfway down. We will be able to look at your plans and offer advice regarding the ideal location or a chute.

Planning the logistics of a chute is easy - however you want it to be in the perfect location of your home. We can help - no problem. Our most popular options are a floor to ceiling cupboard which hides the pipe and dirty laundry. You may like to have the pipe on show, ending about 1.5m from the floor so that the laundry falls directly into a laundry basket. You could install two laundry chutes that end directly above a top loading washing machine. One for whites, one for colours. The creative possibilities are endless!

If you have been considering giving into temptation and investing in a laundry chute, let this be your sign to go ahead with it. Why not contact one of our friendly team members and have a chat about how we can help your laundry chute dreams come true!
