Top 5 Movies that Feature a Laundry Chute
Top 5 Movies that Feature a Laundry Chute

Let's Make a Fantasy a Reality!

Although laundry chutes are still a niche home improvement product within the UK, they are still heavily used and normalised in the USA which makes us believe that we need to jump onto the trend in order to make the dreaded laundry chore less tedious and, dare I say, fun?

After the COVID-19 pandemic overtook everybody’s lives and staying at home was enforced, laundry began to surround us 24/7 with nowhere for us to escape to. As we slowly progress out of the global pandemic, we need to cherish every moment we spend NOT in the house (this is where laundry chutes really come into play).

Not only do they make laundry smarter and more time efficient, they also make the chore way more fun; rather than going back to ‘normal life’, why don’t we make lifestyle changes to embrace and fulfil the joy in everyday tasks?

To really emphasise the amusing aspect, here are 5 movies that feature laundry chutes- purely for your own enjoyment:

1. Home Alone: In this Christmas favourite, during the climactic scene where the Sticky Bandits chase Kevin, Kevin’s character balances his action figures alongside the laundry chute and shoots at them with a BB gun. Who’d have thought that a laundry chute could ward off thieves?

2. The Grand Budapest Hotel: With a film that is mainly set within a hotel, a laundry chute HAD to be included! Wes Andersons’s films have a recurring theme of confined spaces. The hotel is just one of many set pieces in the movie in which characters are pushed into ever more reduced spaces; prison cells, water pipes, laundry chutes, cable cars, confession booths. However, we do hope that you use your laundry chute more efficiently than Anderson entails in this movie.

3. Gremlins: This 1984 comedy horror film may seem very surreal at first, I mean they are a bunch of disobedient monsters! This movie features a laundry chute as the Gremlins fight among each other and Stripe throws the mogwai down the chute. This is most definitely NOT us telling you to do this- please only use our laundry chutes for laundry! Let’s not adapt the behaviour of Gremlins.

4. Paddington 2: A hop forward in time from 1984, Paddington 2 features a spiral escape chute in the grim surroundings of a Victorian prison. However, be rest assured that our laundry chutes are much more luxurious than the movie set piece. Not only does this movie show the transformation of chutes, but also the improvements of movie graphics as a lot of the production is SFX.

5. Dunston Checks In: This old-school classic comedy features a laundry chute as Brian’s character tumbles down the chute and, alongside his younger brother Kyle, befriends Dunston- a three foot tall orangutan. Now, you could say that this wholesome friendship derives from a single laundry chute, although tumbling down one isn’t exactly as positive.

After witnessing the multiple ways that the cinematic world utilises laundry chutes, we envision bringing this fantasy to a reality.

Let’s bring the fun back into our lives as we enter a post-pandemic world. I am sure we have all learnt that life is too short and unexpected to stick to the ‘norms’.
